Atisreal Romania: Sustainable development

For BNP Paribas Real Estate environmental responsibility is a cornerstone of our development philosophy. We focus on urban development and encourage builders and developers to utilize building materials and systems that conserve natural resources.

Here at BNP Paribas Real Estate we know that sustainable buildings offer healthier, more satisfying work and lifestyle environments, so we promote innovative projects with natural daylight, fresh air ventilation and low-maintenance landscaping. Green buildings are a new trend in Romania but their number is rapidly increasing, as these projects conserve water and energy and are built with environmentally sensitive materials.

Romania is currently seeing an unprecedented boom in construction which, along with the growing maturity of the market and the presence of large foreign players provides a favorable setting for the wide scale introduction of green building practices. In addition, the need for sustainable improvements is felt acutely in the existing stock of buildings, the majority of which are old and very energy intensive. It is already known that 40% from European Union’s CO2 emissions are attributable to the construction sector, both from construction and use of the buildings. Therefore, regulatory conditions are starting to set the framework for the development of the green building market, but much more emphasis needs to be placed on actual implementation.

With sustainability concerns and initiatives cutting across virtually all sectors of business today, our team aims to keep our clients ahead of the curve to maximize opportunities and minimize unnecessary cost and risk. That’s why in 2008 BNP Paribas Real Estate Romania has become a founding member of Romanian Green Building Council.

RoGBC is a non-governmental organization aiming at delivering the market, educational, and legislative conditions necessary to promote high performance construction that is both sustainable and profitable. The Council will also work towards the introduction and implementation of national green building standards and certifications to ensure market transformation and the rapid development of the green building segment.
